Prestigious Win at the 75th World Foundry Congress for Best Technical Paper

"I’m delighted the WFO awarded this prize to a paper on foundry sustainability. A topic very close to our hearts. If just one more foundry left the World Foundry Congress ready to operate more sustainably, then that’s a far bigger prize."

Morten Bechlund Winner – Best Technical Paper Senior VP, Norican

Making Sustainability Business as Usual

Norican Senior Vice President, Morten Bechlund, has been awarded Best Technical Paper at the 75th World Foundry Congress. The  event was hosted in October in Sichuan, China, where Morten presented our paper, ‘Making Sustainability Business as Usual for the World’s Foundries.’

Awarded by The World Foundry Organization

The theme for this year’s five-day event was, Developing Foundries. It delivered industry insights, speakers and technical debates in areas such as Science and Technology, Engineering Application, Chinese Foundries, and Talent Cultivation. It showcases the leading ideas and pioneering technologies at the forefront of the foundry industry. And here at Norican, we’re proud that our expertise and our great people are recognized for being technical leaders.

Selected by an expert panel above 200 other papers

Morten’s paper was chosen above 200 other technical submissions. A two-page extended abstract of his presentation will be published by the WCO in the information that follows the 75th Congress.

Showing leadership in sustainability is important for all of our futures

Foundries recognize that being environmentally responsible and improving the bottom line aren’t mutually exclusive goals.

‘We are seeing foundries all over the world embracing more sustainable practices. It’s the right thing to do. But as I have shown in my paper, it also makes business sense. I’m grateful for the award and I couldn’t be more proud.”

The €1,000 cash award accompanying the prize will be donated to The Forest of Marston Vale in the UK, one of the tree planting initiatives supported by Norican. The charity will use the donation to plant 100 trees.
